Back to nature

 https://kollywood247.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/7-iguazu-falls-beautiful-waterfalls.jpg?w=870

Back to nature is a really a big wish,
a big dream getting back to nature
get back to nature
where there are trees in sylvan surroundings
where birds chirp on trees
where that silvery water falls enthrals
where that gurgling bubbly river flows down the valley
where sun rise and sun set is so beautiful
Where life is in tune with nature

We all started with adam and eve
Living a primitive life in forests
Their desire resulted in offspring
The offspring’s desire led to more offspring
Forests gave way to homes,villages,cities
Then we learnt to make clothes to wear
Vehicles to move about, built ships, planes
Invented myriad gadgets and contraptions

All needed factories encroaching on forests
All needed homes to be built, roads to
Travel felling all trees, annihilating forests
Nature was lost to concrete jungles
Air polluted, water contaminated, food crisis
Looming large, What to breathe? What to drink?
What to eat? Now we yearn to get back to nature
To regain all that was lost, how to?

Getting back to nature is getting back to villages
Get back to villages, adopt eco friendly practices
Make villages as the revolving point for all
Preserve the remaining forests regulating
Putting a dead stop to buildings in forests
Remove partially the cultivated lands
To make way for more trees, dense forests
Where you go to get back to real, real nature
To bring the rains, monsoons, health all back!

Monsoon, monsoon come back

Monsoon, monsoon come back
Bring pregnant rain bearing clouds
Pour down torrentialy
Drench the thirsty soil
Water the withering crops

We need food to eat
We need water to drink
Without you how will we get them?
What we have to do to get you
We shall pay heed to your needs hereon

Tree felling,stop!, grow more trees,yes!
Undue constructions stop! destructing forests stop!
Work to bring the dense rain forests back
By all our means by spreading awareness
Impressing on  all concerned to save nature

Let's bring back forests be the new mantra
Chant “We need forests, we need rains”
Let us enable primitive life for the forests
To stay untouched by the teeming population
To stay in comfort and serenity

For the believers rain is Varuna Bhagwan
For non believers too it should be God
As nature for nature is God for them too
Yea, monsoon, monsoon, come back
We shall pay heed, do all needed for you!

Astronomy nights

Day time is Sun’s time
It’s the only super star visible
Shining bright, drowning
The distant light years away star lights
Then the Earth keeps on spinning

Taking the day side to the dark side
Sun sets, it gets dark, it’s night!
Myriad stars, galaxies, nebulae
Now come alive with their lights
It’s time to see them, study them
It’s all about astronomy
Not all the nights are astronomy nights

It’s not enough being a night
We still need pitch darkness
Free from the drifting clouds
Away from the drowning city lights
Where sky is at it’s darkest best

It’s such night an astronomy night
All such nights are astronomy nights
We still need small to big telescopes
Positioned at the darkest locations

We now peer through them, capture the images
Study them now it’s exciting astronomy
Keeping vigil the whole night with stars
Till they fade away for another sun’s day

It’s not just star lights see thrill
It’s all about unraveling myriad mysteries up there
the desire to learn how stars, galaxies et al.,form
then die, then turn black holes etc., to learn the universe,it’s
coming into being, that’s all about astronomy nights!

She deserves to be loved

She deserves to be loved
Sorry guys only by me,haha!
Is there a better lover than me?
Is there a better poet than
Me to compose on her?

There may be thousands
Vying for her love, she is the jury
deciding on who to love To my delight
She chose me as her guardian angel

With this joy swelling in me
With this confidence egging me on
I am composing these lines
With the flow of a gurgling river

Her features stand out
Making her a special odd woman out
Her eyes glow like a cat’s in the dark
Wearing designed contact lenses?
No, it’s nature the designer of her eyes

Her skin shiny like a rose
Plastic surgery made it so?
No, the genes made it so
She is nature’s choice
Deserves to be loved just for that

All other features just fall in place
To match the eyes and skin
Making her a super special woman
Ever to walk the earth reinstating that
She deserves to be loved fair and square!

Tennis mood!

World over tennis lovers are a legion
They simply feast on the tennis diet
They are also a luckier lot
Never left high and dry
Year around tennis tournaments
Cater to them with choicest tennis cuisine
On different surfaces hard, clay and grass

Their love for tennis is fabulous
Keeps growing for which no stops
When majors get underway it simply tops
Their love is not blind
They see, they love!

When it’s time for U.S, Australian,
French opens , Wimbledon
It’s time for big matches
Coming alive on TV screen
Bringing courts in close quarters

To see their much awaited
Macho Tennis stars in action,
Slugging it out on the sprawling courts
Running around corner to corner
Baseline to net, forth and back
With power packed back and fore hands
Whipping out aces, cross court, down the
Line winners, the lobs, the drop shots

The players turn just darlings
Of the tennis fans awestruck
By their power and poise
Grace and style,
The players are in tennis mode
The fans are in tennis mood!

Many have learnt tennis
Just by watching not by playing
They mimick the players serving
Rallying ,serve and volleying, killing the ball dead
By deft shots, that’s slam bang tennis!
The grand game of tennis goes on
The tennis fans love for tennis too!
The tennis mood catches on marches on!

In the forest, me and the forest are alone

In the forest, me and the forest are alone
No, the forest loving poets Robert Frost,
Pablo Neruda, Oscar wilde et.al.,
Or their lines have not accompanied me
Here I am out on my own

Oh yes, the scientist and the poet in me
Have come with me
The scientist is quizzing how
A Forest like this forms
Poet in me is lost in the milieu
enjoying the stillness
Heart tingling chillness
The dense trees with thick foliage
Casting deep shadow beneath
Blocking all sun light to seep thro’

Flora and fauna are part of the forest
Except them no one else with it
That leaves me, scientist and poet
keeping company with it, Yea
me and the forest are very alone indeed!

Low hanging fruits on the trees
fill my belly, a stream with crystal clear water
Reflecting my whole being flows downhill
from the nearbymountain helping me bathe
quench the thirst, all my primitive
requirements taken care of,Iam content here
Leave me and the forest alone, see you folks!

Making the best of 25 lines

25 lines is the new norm
Desired by editors for submissions
Of poetry lest it running amuck awfully lengthy!
It’s prudent to accept the challenge
To make the best of 25 lines

25 lines is all I get to express
I am to fall in love, romance,
capture nature at it’s best
Emote with joy, laugher, sorrow,
Tears all in 25 lines!

The restriction seems outrageous
Stemming the free flow of words
In hindsight it appears
25 is more than enough
For a powerful portrayal

For an infertile mind
Even the 25 may seem hard
To fill up words, finish the lines
For such it’s a real blessing
To scrape through with relief!

These are the times of brevity
To accommodate more poems
In anthologies to provide opportunity
To more authors in one book, just fly
with colourful wings in the space of  25!

It's time to write about life

It’s time to write about life
It’s less focused facets
Away from the lilting romance
Away from the mad money making et.al.,
There lies the true charm and bliss!

It’s time to seek the stashed away jewels
The mountains unexplored
The valleys unraveled
The rivers unspoilt
Where nature is untouched
Where solitude and sereneness
Reign supreme in sublime pastures

It’s time to sympathize with hapless women
In dens of vice forced by the blind society
To work for their liberation
It’s time to go to the lands of poor
Where starvation is the order of the day
Time to raise resources to make them eat
Nutritious tasty food just like all others
It’s time to feel human, act human

It’s time to care for the homeless
Abandoned, aged and destitute
Lend voice and meaningful action
To see they are taken care of
To live in comfort like all others

It’s time to think of farmers, absent rains
The relentless drought that ensues
It’s time to plan to tackle water scarcity
To implement measures to preserve
Water for the future for hard times

It’s time to act on farmers’ deaths
Time to end their debt traps
Time to ensure fair prices for their produce
World thrives by the food they cultivate
Let them thrive too, let us do out bit, right?

My first kiss is to Mother Earth

My first kiss is to Mother Earth
For carrying me and my mother
Who carried me for ten long
Grueling months in her womb
Kiss! Reverence! Pranam! Prostrations!

Earth aptly called mother
For patiently carrying me, my mom
All brethren and sisters and fellow beings
Flora and fauna, the seething oceans
All that in nature with much patience

Earth! your journey is so grand
High beyond Himalayas, skies
Into the sprawling heavens
You kind enough carry me in my journey
smaller than the atom in comparison

Your billions of years versus less than
A Billion year of mine in life time
All the more reason to kiss
In reverence, prostrate in obeisance
Day after day till I exist and travel on you

The only planet to inhabit living beings
As far as science knows, as far as I know
It’s my blessing to be here thanks
My blue marble, revered I remain
Sing your praise, kiss with reverence, salute!

Living simple

Living simple is an essential lesson in life
It takes discipline and the will
To live simple, it’s nobly soulful
Simplicity unforced by economy
Is to live with lot less yet being happy

Beckoning spheres of life
To live a life king size
Lure to get rich
To flaunt opulence
In pure indulgence

All make billion-billions crave luxury,
Being simple makes you stand out
Towering over the vain billion billions
Simplicity is lot more than richness fuelling
The incessant drive,to lact, live in extravaganze

Yes,there is still a charm
In being simple, to live simple
A noble consciousness
Aware of the poverty, penury around
To do something for their untold sufferings

To live simple is blissful contentment
Is not about from riches to rags
It’s about being humble
Now matter how comfortable in life
Just enough, wealthy, flying high

To succeed in simplicity
Is the rare ability to ward off
the welling up desires, the will
to remember vanity is a balloon
going bust once life pricks the end, yes!

Being happy always

Being happy always
Is easier said than accomplished!
It’s perfect for the enlightened hermits
For them bliss is within, seek within
Damn difficult for the mundane poor mortals

Ordinary mortals are for progress,
Improvement, self-welfare
Being content on stagnant progress
May help being happy, yes
Just they keep working, happy!

The noble hearted work for others’ welfare,
May be sad seeing the others suffering
Still helping them, seeing their smiles
On improvement makes them happy
They too keep working, happy!

For still many being happy means owning
money, more money, luxury, high living,
A palatial bungalow, an extravagant car,
The latest high end smart phone so on,
Well, modern desires or modern necessities?

Once it dawns on them these are mere desires
Not actual necessities as they could live
With less amenities with bare minimum
Essentials, food, dress and shelter
There floods the happiness, indeed!

There are no short cuts or ready made recipies
To being happy always, just some measures-
It’s hermit way of life, contented mortal living,
Social uplifting, welfare oriented sustenance- just few
Right pickings amidst thousand ways of being happy!

Keep going, there is always a tomorrow

Depressed? Not happy with the life
The way it is? Take heart!
Keep going, there is always a tomorrow
These are the words I remind myself
That the life is not lost till you give up

The path in the present may be thorny
Cauldron of problems fire, rage along the way
To bake you in simmering heat and pain
It’s prudent to pursue the path undeterred
Taking care to tread with caution

Make the path a bed of roses
Let deeds do the systematic gardening
Having born life never stops mid way
It has to go on come what may
Console yourself you are far better placed

Not sick, lying on a stretcher flat!
Hale and healthy and moving about
Thank million times more for what you have
than worrying for what not you have
Thank you are not in slum and penury

Thank, work towards progress
Set a noble goal to reach
You may not be a noble enlightened
To stop further birth altogether
By living this life for mukthi, nirvana

Be magnanimous to work for the
Progress for the less fortunate
To raise from penury and live in comfort
Be kind to work to leave a better world
To the gen next, that is the way to go!

It's easy to fall in love

Image may contain: one or more people, people standing, sky, outdoor and nature

It’s easy to fall in love
Easy to fall in with the right gal
The gal with fabulous looks
Matched by her goodness and love
Ideal to fall in love, stay in love

A natural aroma floats around her
Her eyes so deep and skyish blue,
Well chiselled features, mounds, curves
Nature working overtime to craft them
Before unleashing her on to the Earth

A feast to the eyes
So hot to desire
Yet so cool, lovable, loving, divine
in kindness, care, an angel par excellence,
gal par excellence, a rarest combo to cherish

Making it easy not only to fall in love
Making it also very easy to stay in love
A love unique, incomparable
Like all the historic lovers adam, eve,
laila, majnu, ambikapathi, amaravathi et.al.,

A rejoinder to all those skeptical of love
In these money conscious, pleasure loving
Modern times where love blossoms in no time
Breaks in no time, this is a love to envy
Emulate, enjoy if only we can, amen!

The almari song

I composed a song
And kept it in the almari
For safe keeping, for posterity
It virtually remained unread, not many
caring to read, the almari song!

In the days of more poets in queue
Vying for the same set of readership
the song remains unsung
It takes more luck, favourable friendships,
Jurys, charm to clinch an award than content

The beautiful words, rhyme and timing
All go abegging, a naked non chalance
Inducing negativism, it’s difficult to
Remain positive, sinking the morale
To it’s low ebb, the worst ever nadir

Perhaps the song will be on all ears
If only it’s a captivating musical
A lyrics with tune and melodious lift
Alas it was made into a book
Making it easy to go untouched, unread

It’s time it’s taken out from the almari
Render it with music and tune
To float on the air reaching the
Unreachable ears hitherto unhearing
Lesson learnt, let almari song be a real song!

-Mohan Sanjeevan

N.B: Almari in Tamil means bookshelf in English
