A thriller called Comet Ison!

Comet Ison with ice on!
An on-going cosmic spectacle
Came from the cold ,
from the far most  layers of the solar system-
the oort cloud – the residence of left over icy
left overs of  the solar system formation
one light year away,
after thousands  of years in orbit
started off a Sun bound journey
tugged by the pull of  nearby stars

Taking it’s name from the telescope
spotting it in 2012 at 6 millions away
it made news into astronomy circles
and public domain as the comet of the century
for it gave rise to hopes of a bright display
as it neared the perihelion the closest
approach distance to Sun
it’s icy content vaporized by scorching heat of Sun
offering also hopes of studying origins of Sun,planets ,
origin of life on Earth if it is to survive sling shot past Sun

As the world and observatories and telescopes
Watched with ever-growing interest
it conintued it’s march towards Sun
Generating hopes and hype
Of a cosmic spectacle for it had the right size
and distance to make it a survivor of the rendezvous with Sun

Sure the Comet wonder lived upto it’s expectations
Brightening as it approached Sun
Rising also were the apprehensions
The comet may suffer the fate of some
ill-fated  Comets like Love joy being completely
obliterated on brush with Sun

On the day of Perihelion round the Sun
It did appear  obliterated as no signs of it
In the solar dynamic observatory tracking it
It seemed the comet was devoured by the fiery Sun
An ode to the Comet Ison  seemed in order!

There came the thriller –
Emerging out of the other side of Sun
With atleast some small nucleus intact
Ensuring the resumption of the on going
Cosmic spectacle and raising the hopes
Of study of origins of Sun, planets and life on Earth

Comet Ison!  Just Go on!
The world is full of glee to track your journey
May you attain immortality!
Throwing clues at the mysteries of our solar system
Yea , go on , on and on!
Let  the thriller continue!
