Oh Chennai! the singara Chennai!

The Chennaipatnam of yester years

With lovely beaches and lakes

Now a victim of urbanization

Destroying lakes for high rise shopping,

Living, offices , commerce and industry

Blocking all drains to force a deluge,

Heavy floods into streets, homes

Rendering thousands homeless, in peril

With food, water running out, plunged

Into darkness with electricity outage

Oh now you are a ghost town exorcised by

Destruction of nature, storms, rains and floods

There are millions of eyes weeping for you

Not just eyes the whole hearts weep for you

Good Samaritans local and world wide

The noble army and disaster all working

Round the clock to save your citizens

Help restore normalcy

 to make you get up on your feet

I join all those millions of prayers for you

Let there be no such recurrence

Let’s plan and implement ways to it

Let’s pray and wish the good days again

Let’s all work towards it, Jai hind!
