Kite memoirs

Went sliding back into the past
Down memory lane gleefully
As those days were pleasant school days
A kite fluttered in the windy skies
Oh! The lovely kite memoirs!

Windy season was the season to await
Soon after the winds start flowing strong
Plans got underway to assemble kites
A Do IT Yourself in those early days
Oh what a thrill, pleasure and satisfaction it offered

Colourful papers thick enough to withstand
Winds were purchased, paper cut
in rectangular shape, tail pieces cut
Broom sticks one bent to resemble a bow
One put vertically across the paper

Now self made maida gum prepared
boiling the maida powder in to a sticky paste
Now all the bow and straight broom sticks fixed
To the paper held in place by the in folded paper
Gummed in, tails pasted to the kite

The kite is now ready to fly
Kites of mine other kids taken to
The vast open spaces. bundle of thread
attached , spooled out the kite takes off, lifted by
wind, soon it’s up, up and away into the skies!

All kites vying with each other
Flew high, high and high as if into the heavens!
Kite carrying run followed to see the kite in our hands
Moving with us still flying into the skies, oh!
Those were nostalgic kite days, will never come back!
