January
19 th 2006-
The
mighty Atlas V blasted off
On a
historic grand lift off
To launch
the marvel aptly named New Horizons
Propelling
it into a fastest spacecraft ever
Onto
enigmatic Pluto and beyond
On a
great space odyssey of our times
It carried
on merrily @ 36,000 miles per hour
With
the Radio Isotope Thermoelectric generator
Powering
the onboard instruments
Hydrazine
fuel aiding course corrections
Flying
past Jupiter in 2007 for gravity assist
Getting
9,000 miles per hour boost
To cut
short the journey to Pluto by 3 years fast
Going
into hibernation fell asleep from 2006 to 2014
waking up from the safe mode in the fall of 2014
On approach
to the great heroic Pluto
Pluto
a planet then when it started off
Demoted
a dwarf planet in disgrace right after, uff!
Pluto
lay awaited to have it’s last laugh
New
Horizons kept unlocking mysteries enroute
Noting
volcanic eruption on Jupiter’s Io moon on spot
Discovering
the Pluto’s heart shaped, dark ,circular features
Throwing
light on the icy mountains, icy moons
Hazy
hydra coming into focus more as icy rock than a moon
Finding
Pluto larger in size than thought, ooops!
Discoveries
may restore the Pluto back as a planet
The
journey is still on, the data thereon in rote
Identifying
the apt kuiper belt object to pass by next
It may
continue to fly past for the interstellar space tryst
New Horizon's story seeking new space horizons is vast
Into
the void, into the outer reaches of solar system great
Let it
carry on, carry on unraveling our origins, salute!
