Long
30 years after leaving
Memories
of my school days came back
The
urge to pay a visit to my old school
Surged
within me in right earnest
The
school was some 5 kilometres
Away
from my village
With
only a mud road to connect to the
main
bus plying road a kilometre away
Getting
to school was always by walk
Barefoot
with nothing to protect the feet
Yet
barefoot was common those days
neither
treated as poor, nor frowned upon
Well,
the plan took shape
me
one fine day landing at the school
All
the way from the city I live, OMG!
a
state minister on visit too that day!
How
it came to be like that
Whether
the minister got wind of my plans,
timed it to perfection to visit
On
the same day as I visited!
That
left very little for me to do
Except
seeing the head master briefly
Letting
him know I was school first
In
the leaving exams of the school
The
vast open space in front of the
Office
building has given way to buildings
Hearteningly
the foot ball field across the road on
the
other side where we played cricket still there
Growing
into a big man was the
Yearning
those days, having grown big
Now
there is a wish I never grew up to remain
a
school boy, the visit reinstated that wish afresh!
